Well said, Kelly. Though my exposure to the East Lansing community was brief, I would include it on the short list of leading cities in the Midwest for entrepreneurial activity and related support resources. What places like Madison, Evanston, Ann Arbor and Columbus have figured out (somewhat) is how to connect ideas with investment, and how to harness the collective energy of young entrepreneurs around a university. MSU and East Lansing isn't far behind, though it will take more people like you rowing in the same direction to keep pace moving forward. Right now there appears to be too much fragmentation and duplication of efforts to generate much momentum. A unique challenge in your region will be figuring out how to effectively navigate through the muddy world of politics that pervades the area. Keep knocking down the walls to drive transparency, authenticity and trust! Best of luck, Kelly.

Great job capturing all the excitement that's going on in East Lansing and Lansing! I am so proud to be in the thick of it. There's amazing things going on and I share your disappointment that more people don't realize what's happening. We're hitting a turning point for the region. The culture is starting to change. New ideas are getting launched left and right.

This is a great post…I love all of the great information and the positive outlook. You're very right about all of the opportunity in MI. I actually moved away for a bit to experience something new, and I came back because I LOVE MI (Detroit, Lansing, Lower Peninsula, the UP, everywhere). There is more enthusiasm and opportunity in this state than I have seen anywhere…together, we will all make an impact and Michigan will continue to thrive.
